I have decided to start 2026 by reviewing all the books I read in 2025. My reviews are not long and are not certainly meant to be taken with anymore seriousness than if a stranger in your second-hand bookstore where to tell you the same thing.
I have never read a financial book before, and I cannot speak to what all of them are like, but if every money book was like Scott Pape’s The Barefoot Investor then I think it would be my new favourite genre. I read the “revised and updated edition” and my praise for this book cannot get any higher. It is a well written, hands on and easy to understand money guide. The level of practicality is outstanding and many pieces of advice that he offers can be implemented immediately.
Not everything is perfect, there are few jokes or references that, as a Christian, I would not make, but that does not reduce the quality of his writing. He covers the dangers of loans, how to set up your monthly budget, how to make the most of super and how to get out of debt.
I strongly recommend this book to everyone, regardless if you are a financial genius or believe that using a credit card to pay off other credit card debt is smart.
