I have decided to start 2026 by reviewing all the books I read in 2025. My reviews are not long and are not certainly meant to be taken with anymore seriousness than if a stranger in your second-hand bookstore where to tell you the same thing.
I want to state that it was a unique set of circumstances that caused me to read Francine River’s The Lady’s Mine. To begin, it isn’t really my genre of choice, I know I write romantic elements and even have them be a big part of the story, but I wouldn’t usually go for a Romantic Gold-Rush era western. I also didn’t buy this book; my wife did and had even begun reading it before life became quite busy. As I had finished all the books I had bought, she suggested I read it, as she would not be able to pick it up again until she was on her holidays.
I suppose I should have stated my opinion by now, well, here it is, I liked it. Rivers is a talented writer with a great setting and characters I cared about. The wit was excellent and for the most part, the plot was engaging. The setting was interesting, a small town reliant on mining with poverty infested within. There was interesting subplot of a murder, though I wish it had more emphasis to the story.
If you are one who is looking for a great Christian romance, then I would strongly recommend this book to you.
